League City has identified September 21 as the expected reopening date for the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center after work on its restroom and bird-viewing facilities.
The city’s closure notice calls for replacing the existing bathroom with a larger unit and rebuilding all three bird blinds along the trail system. The planned three-week closure began August 31; the city says the park could reopen earlier if the work is completed sooner. City closure announcement
For residents planning a visit, September 21 remains an estimate. The announcement reviewed September 16 does not confirm that the work is finished.
A nature preserve inside the city
The 148-acre property sits on Clear Creek’s southern shore at 1220 North Egret Bay Boulevard. Its first phase opened in April 2008. The city describes wetlands that support birds, provide nursery habitat for fish and shelter other wildlife—a reminder that the park’s purpose extends beyond its walking paths. City nature center profile
The preserve grew out of a 2005 land acquisition intended to protect creekside woodlands and wetlands. Federal and state conservation grants helped fund the project, along with city, county and estuary-program contributions. Today, its amenities include a 1.3-mile concrete observation trail, a pollinator garden and a monarch waystation. League City’s nature center history and amenities
Its name also reflects local history. The city named the center for Ned and Fay Dudney in 2009. Ned was a longtime physician who served on the first City Council; Fay was active in gardening, historic preservation and community organizations. League City’s account of the Dudneys
