League City Blood Drive Looks to Build on 899 Lives Helped in 2026
Residents will have another opportunity to donate Tuesday at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center as League City works to surpass its community blood-donation impact from 2025.
LEAGUE CITY, Texas — League City residents have already made a significant impact through community blood donations this year, and another opportunity to help arrives Tuesday.
League City will host its next Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center.
According to the City, League City blood donors have helped save 899 lives so far in 2026.
League City Is Closing in on Last Year’s Mark
The City says community blood donations helped save just over 1,000 lives during 2025.
With 899 already credited to League City donors this year, the community is within striking distance of exceeding that mark before the end of 2026.
Lives Helped Through League City Donations in 2026
That is the impact reported by the City heading into Tuesday’s community blood drive.
Blood drives provide hospitals and medical facilities with a renewable supply of a resource that cannot simply be manufactured when demand rises.
Gulf Coast Blood serves hospitals and medical facilities throughout the Texas Gulf Coast and surrounding regions and relies on continued community participation to maintain that supply.
What Happens When You Donate?
For residents who have never donated blood, the process includes several steps before the donation itself.
Gulf Coast Blood says donors begin by registering and presenting identification. They then complete a confidential health interview and receive a basic wellness screening that includes checks such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature and hemoglobin.
Eligibility is determined individually during the screening process.
Once cleared, donors proceed with the donation and are given time afterward to rest and have refreshments before leaving.
Who Can Donate?
Gulf Coast Blood generally accepts donors age 17 and older, while qualifying 16-year-olds may donate with parental consent.
Additional eligibility requirements can apply based on health history, medications, recent travel and other factors.
Because individual circumstances vary, residents who are unsure whether they qualify should check directly with Gulf Coast Blood before their appointment.
Preparing to Donate
- Eat a good meal before your appointment.
- Drink plenty of fluids beforehand.
- Get adequate rest the night before.
- Bring the identification required by the blood center.
- Review eligibility requirements if you have recent travel, medications or health questions.
Donors Will Receive a Blanket and Saint Arnold Voucher
League City is also offering a couple of thank-you items for Tuesday’s donors.
According to the City, donors will receive a free blanket along with a voucher for a free pint from Saint Arnold Brewing Company.
Promotional items are secondary to the purpose of the event, but the incentives provide an additional way to recognize residents who take time out of their day to donate.
Why Local Blood Drives Matter
Blood donations are needed for a wide range of medical care, including surgeries, trauma treatment and treatment of patients with serious illnesses.
Unlike some medical supplies, blood products have limited shelf lives, which means the supply must continually be replenished.
Community drives make donating more convenient by bringing collection opportunities directly into cities, workplaces, schools and other gathering places.
Tuesday’s event places that opportunity in the center of League City at the Civic Center on Walker Street.
Appointments Can Help Keep the Day Moving
Residents interested in participating are encouraged to make an appointment through the donor scheduling system linked from the City’s official blood-drive announcement.
The drive runs for six hours, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., giving residents options during the late morning, lunch period and afternoon.
Donors should allow enough time for registration, screening, the donation itself and a brief recovery period afterward.
A Community Goal Within Reach
League City’s 2025 blood-donation effort helped push the community past the equivalent of 1,000 lives helped.
With 899 already reported in 2026, Tuesday’s drive provides another chance for residents to help move the community closer to — or beyond — last year’s mark.
For people who are eligible and have considered donating, the October 13 event offers an opportunity to make that contribution locally without traveling far from home.
The Community Blood Drive will take place Tuesday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, 400 W. Walker Street.
Talk of League City will continue highlighting community programs, volunteer opportunities and local events that give residents ways to get involved.
