What to Do This Weekend in League City: Halloween, Football, Live Music and Pumpkin Smashing

LEAGUE CITY, Texas — If you have been waiting for the biggest fall weekend of the season, it has arrived.
Halloween falls on Saturday this year, and League City has events spread across the entire weekend — beginning with football, an adult open-mic night and live music Friday before moving into Halloween activities Saturday and a final round of costumes and pumpkins Sunday.
Whether you are planning around the kids, looking for a date-night option or just trying to get one more use out of a Halloween costume, there is plenty happening close to home.
Friday: Treats & Talents at Helen Hall Library
Adults can start Halloween weekend a night early with Treats & Talents: An Open Mic & Mocktails Night at Helen Hall Library.
The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and is designed for ages 18 and older.
Residents can take the microphone and perform or simply grab a mocktail, mingle and watch the evening’s entertainment.
The Library is promising live performances, Halloween-themed drinks, treats and a creative atmosphere for anyone looking for something a little different from the usual Friday night.

Friday Night Football: Two League City Teams in Action
Friday is also an important night in District 18-6A football.
Clear Springs travels to Clear Lake for a 7 p.m. kickoff with a chance to strengthen its playoff position.
The Chargers enter the game 4-4 overall and 3-2 in district after back-to-back wins over Clear Falls and Clear Brook.
Clear Springs scored a season-high 52 points in its most recent victory and can take another major step toward the postseason Friday.
Meanwhile, Clear Creek faces Clear Brook at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Wildcats are coming off a 7-0 shutout of Clear Falls that gave Clear Creek its first district victory of the season.
For football fans who would rather stay in League City, the Clear Creek-Clear Brook matchup provides the convenient hometown option.
Friday: Music in the Historic District
Residents looking for something more relaxed can head to League Park Friday night.
Music in the Historic District runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at League Park, 512 2nd Street.
The free, family-friendly event is presented by the League City Folk Association and League City Historical Society.
Residents are encouraged to bring a chair, and outside food and beverages are welcome.
With Halloween the following night, the outdoor concert provides a relatively low-key way to begin the weekend in one of League City’s most recognizable settings.

Saturday Morning: Halloween Pop-Up Café
Halloween starts early at Helen Hall Library.
The Library’s Halloween Pop-Up Café runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The all-ages event includes Halloween crafts and activities, a Friends of Helen Hall Library book sale, coffee and food options.
Costumes are encouraged.
Children can also trick-or-treat inside the Library at the service desks, making this a good option for younger kids or families that want some Halloween fun before nighttime activities begin.
Take a Fright Fight Driving Tour
If your family enjoys elaborate Halloween decorations, League City residents have created plenty to see.
The City’s inaugural Fright Fight drew nearly 30 decorated homes across League City.
Residents can use the City’s interactive map to create their own driving tour of the displays throughout Halloween weekend.
The winning display is located at 2222 Foxglove Street.
The competition was inspired by 10-year-old League City resident Caiden Navarro, who suggested creating a Halloween version of the City’s popular holiday Light Fight.
Even though judging is complete, the map remains a useful guide for families looking to see some of League City’s more elaborate Halloween displays.
Saturday Night: Haunted House at Fire Station No. 4
For older children and teenagers who want something a little scarier, League City’s Volunteer Fire Department is opening a haunted house Saturday night.
The free Halloween attraction runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Fire Station No. 4, 175 W. Bay Area Boulevard.
The City specifically promotes the haunted house as an option for older kids and teens.
That gives families with younger children an easy split: the Library Pop-Up Café earlier in the day, followed by the firehouse after dark for anyone ready for something spookier.

Best suited for older kids and teens.
Sunday Morning: Give the Costume One More Run
Halloween may end Saturday night, but League City is giving residents one more excuse to keep the costumes out Sunday.
A Costume Fun Run 5K begins at 11 a.m. Sunday at Hometown Heroes Park.
The all-ages event encourages runners and walkers to participate in costume.
League City says advance registration is available, with participants also able to sign up at the event.
It is designed less like a serious road race and more like a family-friendly way to stay active while extending Halloween weekend for a few extra hours.
Sunday: Pumpkin Palooza Turns Halloween Pumpkins Into Compost
After the run, do not throw those pumpkins in the trash.
League City’s Pumpkin Palooza runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hometown Heroes Park, 1001 E. League City Parkway.
The free event is essentially one last celebration for the pumpkins that spent October sitting on porches and front steps.
Families can bring their leftover Halloween pumpkins and put them through the City’s smashing machines.
The broken pumpkins will then be composted instead of being sent to the landfill.
Pumpkin Games, Costumes and Food Trucks
Pumpkin destruction is only part of Sunday’s event.
Free activities include:
- Pumpkin bowling
- Miniature pumpkin tic-tac-toe
- Pumpkin relay races
- Environmental education booths
- A family photo opportunity
- A Pumpkin Palooza Passport with a goody bag
- A costume contest beginning at 2 p.m.
Food and drinks will also be available for purchase from food trucks.
The City will collect and weigh the pumpkins brought for composting, and residents can guess the total weight for a chance to win League City merchandise.
Why Compost the Pumpkins?
The event has an environmental purpose behind the fun.
Pumpkins are organic material, which means they can break down into compost that returns nutrients to soil.
Sending them to a landfill instead wastes that potential resource.
Pumpkin Palooza gives residents a way to dispose of Halloween pumpkins while letting kids smash them first — probably a more convincing recycling pitch than most environmental brochures can offer.

Halloween Weekend Without Leaving League City
This weekend offers one of the better combinations of events on League City’s fall calendar.
Friday can be football, an open mic or outdoor music.
Saturday can start with younger children at the Library, move through neighborhood Halloween displays and finish at the Fire Department haunted house.
Then Sunday gives everyone a chance to put the costumes back on, get outside and turn leftover pumpkins into compost.
The result is three days of local activities without requiring a drive into Houston or Galveston.
Event details can change. Talk of League City recommends confirming schedules with the organizer before leaving home, particularly for outdoor events.
