League City’s FM 270 Boat Ramp to Close Oct. 12 for $2 Million Renovation
The popular Clear Creek launch will undergo upgrades to its ramps, docks, bulkhead, walkways, parking and accessibility — but boaters should prepare for a lengthy closure.
LEAGUE CITY, Texas — Boaters who regularly use League City’s public launch under the FM 270 bridge have less than a week before the facility closes for a major renovation project.
The City says the public boat ramp at 1399 North Egret Bay Boulevard will close beginning Monday, October 12.
The closure is expected to continue until summer 2027.
A 35-Year-Old Facility Is Getting a Major Overhaul
The public launch sits along Clear Creek beneath the FM 270 bridge and has served local boaters for approximately 35 years.
The City says the renovation is intended to make the facility safer, easier to use and more accessible.
That work goes well beyond simply resurfacing the existing ramps.
Planned Improvements
- Upgrades to all three boat ramps
- Bulkhead rehabilitation
- New and upgraded docks
- Improved walkways and decking
- New dock bumpers
- Parking lot improvements
- Sidewalk improvements
- Accessibility upgrades
Bulkhead and Dock Work Are Major Parts of the Project
One of the most significant improvements involves rehabilitation of the waterfront bulkhead.
Bulkheads help stabilize the shoreline and protect waterfront infrastructure from erosion and deterioration.
League City says the work is intended to help extend the life of the facility while protecting the waterfront.
The docks will also receive substantial upgrades, including new dock structures and bumpers intended to provide boaters with safer and easier access when launching or retrieving vessels.
Accessibility Is Also Part of the Plan
The project includes improvements to walkways, decking, parking areas and sidewalks.
The City specifically says the renovation will include upgrades intended to make the facility more accessible for people with disabilities.
For a public waterfront facility, those changes can affect more than boat owners. Improved paths and docks can also make the area easier to navigate for passengers and visitors with mobility limitations.
Part of the Cost Is Being Covered by a State Grant
The overall renovation carries an estimated price tag of approximately $2 million.
League City says part of that cost is being offset by a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
That means the full project cost will not fall solely on League City funding.
The Tradeoff: A Better Ramp, but a Long Closure
The renovation should eventually provide a safer and more usable launch, but the construction schedule means residents who rely on the site will need alternatives for much of the upcoming boating season.
What the Closure Means for Local Boaters
The timing is important for residents who use Clear Creek as a gateway to Clear Lake and surrounding waterways.
With construction beginning October 12 and reopening not anticipated until summer 2027, the facility will be unavailable for an extended period.
Residents who normally launch at FM 270 should plan ahead and identify another public or private launch before transporting a boat to the area.
The City’s announcement does not indicate that partial access will remain available during construction.
Why the Ramp Matters to League City
League City’s location along Clear Creek and near Clear Lake makes boating and waterfront recreation an important part of the community’s identity.
Public launches provide residents who do not own waterfront property or marina slips with access to those waterways.
That makes the quality and availability of facilities like the FM 270 ramp an important recreational infrastructure issue as League City continues to grow.
October 12 Closure Is Approaching
Residents planning to use the launch this week still have several days before the closure begins.
Starting October 12, however, boaters should expect the facility at 1399 North Egret Bay Boulevard to be unavailable while construction is underway.
The City currently anticipates reopening the improved boat ramp sometime in summer 2027.
Talk of League City will continue tracking the project and any changes to the construction or reopening schedule.
