LEAGUE CITY, Texas — Wendy and Bruce Chandler entered a national competition by sharing the story of how a friendship developed into something much more.
Now the League City-area couple has officially been named the 2026 America’s Favorite Couple.
After advancing through multiple rounds of online voting, Wendy and Bruce won the national fundraising competition and will now receive a prize package that includes $20,000, national exposure and a Hollywood Hills dinner.
League City will recognize the couple Tuesday night with an official proclamation during the City Council meeting.
Their Relationship Changed During the Pandemic
Wendy and Bruce already knew one another before they began dating.
Their relationship began changing during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Bruce was hosting a podcast that Wendy started watching.
After Wendy commented on one of the episodes, Bruce eventually called her.
That conversation helped turn an existing friendship into a deeper connection.
Music was another early clue that they had more in common than either realized.
In an interview with KGTX 7 while the couple was competing in the finals, Bruce recalled playing singer-songwriter music in his vehicle and being surprised when Wendy already knew the songs.
The relationship continued growing, and Wendy and Bruce married in 2023.
League City and Clear Lake Residents Rallied Behind Them
As the Chandlers advanced through America’s Favorite Couple, their campaign increasingly became a local story.
Wendy told KGTX that support from residents around League City and Clear Lake exceeded what the couple expected.
Friends, acquaintances and even people they did not personally know began voting and encouraging others to support them.
The community response was particularly meaningful, Wendy said, because giving back has been an important part of their own lives.
Wendy works as a school psychologist and has described serving children and families as part of who she is.
What the Chandlers Won
2026 America’s Favorite Couple
Wendy & Bruce Chandler
- $20,000 prize
- An advertorial appearance in Variety
- A Hollywood Hills dinner with Jeff and Emilie Goldblum
The competition officially announced Wendy and Bruce as the 2026 winners on October 1.
The national competition describes the Texas couple as having transformed a friendship into a lasting romance rooted in community and service.
The Competition Raised More Than $2.5 Million
America’s Favorite Couple is more than a relationship competition.
It is an online fundraising campaign operated by Colossal in partnership with Action Initiative Team.
The 2026 competition supported Oceana, an international ocean-conservation organization, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
The campaign generated more than $2.5 million in support for the two organizations.
That charitable component was meaningful to Wendy and Bruce, who repeatedly emphasized community involvement during their campaign.
How the Competition Works
Despite its name, America’s Favorite Couple is not a scientific national public-opinion poll.
It is an online fundraising competition.
Couples advance through public voting, with supporters able to cast free votes while additional votes can also be associated with charitable contributions.
Thousands of couples participated during the 2026 competition before the field eventually narrowed to the finalists.
Wendy and Bruce ultimately finished on top.
League City Will Recognize Them Tuesday
The couple’s national recognition will now come home.
League City’s October 13 City Council agenda includes a proclamation honoring Wendy and Bruce as winners of the 2026 competition.
Mayor Nick Long and Council Member Andy Cones are scheduled to present the recognition.
The presentation is scheduled during the Council meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Council Chambers, 200 W. Walker Street.
A Local Love Story Finds a National Audience
The Chandlers’ story began without a national competition, publicity or prize package.
Two people who already knew each other started talking more during an unusual period when much of the world was isolated at home.
A podcast comment became a phone call.
A friendship became a relationship.
That relationship eventually became a marriage.
Years later, their story attracted enough support to carry a League City-area couple through a national online competition.
For Wendy and Bruce, the result means a $20,000 prize, national recognition and a memorable trip to Hollywood.
For the community that supported them throughout the contest, Tuesday’s proclamation offers a chance to celebrate the win closer to home.
