What to Do This Weekend in League City: Football, Pumpkins, Charity Softball and More

From a Friday-night League City football rivalry to pumpkin patches, a fall carnival, hands-on art and a two-day charity softball tournament, there is plenty happening close to home October 16–18.

LEAGUE CITY, Texas — If you are looking for something to do without leaving League City this weekend, the calendar offers a little bit of everything.

Friday night brings a local high school football matchup and multiple Halloween-themed activities. Saturday is packed with pumpkins, family events, library programs and community gatherings, while a major charity softball tournament stretches across both Saturday and Sunday.

Here are some of the events worth putting on your calendar.

Friday Night: Clear Falls vs. Clear Springs

One of the weekend’s biggest local sports events arrives Friday night when two League City programs meet in District 18-6A football.

Clear Falls hosts Clear Springs at 7 p.m. Friday, October 16 at Challenger Columbia Stadium.

Clear Falls enters the matchup 3-3 overall, while Clear Springs comes in at 2-4.

The game carries additional interest because both programs are based in League City, making it a true hometown matchup rather than just another district game.

Friday: Teen Boo Bash at Helen Hall Library

Teenagers looking for something Halloween-themed before the football game have an option at Helen Hall Library.

The Teen Boo Bash runs from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Friday in the Library Theater.

The event includes costumes, candy, a screening of Hocus Pocus and voting for standout costumes.

It is designed for ages 12 through 18. Registration is required, and participants need a Helen Hall Library card or TexShare card.

Because the event ends after regular library hours, the Library also requires transportation to be waiting in the parking lot when the program concludes.

Friday: Hobbs Fall Fest

Families looking for a larger fall-festival atmosphere can head to the west side of League City Friday evening.

Hobbs Fall Fest is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Ivy Kids Hobbs on West League City Parkway.

The community event is expected to include trunk-or-treating, a Scholastic Book Fair, bounce house, face painting, petting zoo, food trucks, local vendors, games and entertainment.

Costumes are encouraged, and the event is being promoted as open to both Ivy Kids families and the broader League City community.

Saturday Morning: Music and Movement for Young Kids

Families with younger children can start Saturday at Helen Hall Library.

Music and Movement runs from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and is designed for children ages 1 through 8.

The program combines songs and movement in a short, energetic session geared toward younger children.

It takes place at Helen Hall Library, 100 W. Walker Street.

Saturday: Free Pumpkin Patch

Another family option begins just after Music and Movement.

An Annual Free Pumpkin Patch is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 805 Clear Creek Avenue.

The event listing says pumpkins will be available while supplies last, with a limit of one pumpkin per person and three per family.

For families simply looking for a quick fall photo opportunity or a pumpkin to take home, this may be one of the easier stops on Saturday’s schedule.

Saturday: Great Pumpkin Patch Carnival

If your family wants more than just a pumpkin, The Watershed Church is hosting its first Great Pumpkin Patch Carnival Saturday.

The carnival is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. at 1751 E. League City Parkway.

Organizers are advertising a $10 wristband for all-you-can-play carnival activities and rides.

The event is part of The Watershed Church’s larger October pumpkin-patch season and offers another family-friendly option during the heart of Saturday afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday: Derricks & Diamonds Charity Softball Tournament

One of the weekend’s largest events takes over The Ballpark at League City on both Saturday and Sunday.

The 22nd Annual Derricks & Diamonds Charity Softball Tournament brings teams from across the energy industry together for two days of softball benefiting pediatric cancer programs.

The tournament includes competitive and recreational co-ed teams, a Hall of Fame Game, Home Run Derby and a kids area.

The event benefits Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center and the Snowdrop Foundation.

Derricks & Diamonds says the initiative has raised more than $5.2 million since 2005.

The tournament takes place October 17 and 18 at The Ballpark at League City, 1150 Ballpark Way.

For sports fans looking for something different from high school football, this is one of the more meaningful events on the weekend calendar.

Saturday Afternoon: Try Japanese Gyotaku Art

Helen Hall Library has one of the weekend’s most unusual activities Saturday afternoon.

A Gyotaku Art Class runs from 1 to 3 p.m. for adults 18 and older.

Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese method of fish printing that originally developed as a way for fishermen to record their catches.

Participants will apply ink to an actual fish and transfer the image to paper or fabric.

The Library provides the fish, paper and paint. Participants who want to create a print on a shirt, tea towel or another item can bring their own material.

The class is limited to 10 participants and requires registration, so check availability before heading over.

Saturday Afternoon: Board Games at the Library

If paint and fish are not your thing, Helen Hall also offers a much more relaxed adult option.

Board Games runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the Library Boardroom.

The program is designed for adults 18 and older, and no registration is required.

Players can use the games available at the Library or bring their own beginner-friendly game. Snacks and drinks are provided.

Saturday Evening: Together at the Table

For adults looking for a more upscale Saturday night, the League City Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 3rd Annual Together at the Table.

This year’s theme is Havana Nights, with the event scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. on the Chamber patio at 100 Perkins Avenue.

The evening features family-style dining from local restaurants, music, dancing and community networking around one long shared table.

Individual tickets were listed at $75, and the Chamber has indicated that the event is close to selling out, so anyone interested should check availability before making plans.

Sunday: StoryWalk at Helen Hall Library

Sunday’s League City event calendar is quieter, but families looking for a low-key outing can take advantage of the final day of Helen Hall Library’s StoryWalk.

Pages from a children’s picture book are displayed around the Library lawn, allowing families to read the story while taking a walk outdoors.

After finishing, children can stop by the Children’s Desk for a small prize.

The StoryWalk runs through Sunday, October 18 and is designed for families.

Sunday: Charity Softball Continues

The Derricks & Diamonds tournament also continues Sunday at The Ballpark at League City, giving residents another chance to watch softball while supporting organizations working with children affected by cancer.

That makes it a good Sunday option for anyone who cannot attend Saturday or who wants an outdoor sports activity without traveling outside League City.

A Full Weekend Without Leaving League City

The October calendar tends to get busier as Halloween approaches, and this weekend reflects that.

Families can choose between pumpkin patches, fall festivals, library programs and softball. Sports fans have a League City high school rivalry Friday night. Adults have options ranging from board games and an unusual art workshop to the Chamber’s Havana-themed dinner.

Whether you want to spend an entire Saturday out or simply find one quick family activity, there is plenty happening close to home.

Event details can change, and registration or tickets may be required for some activities. Talk of League City recommends confirming availability with the event organizer before leaving home.
